In a social media post, Trump stated he would “extend the ceasefire” until Iran presented a proposal to end the conflict.
The US president, however, made it clear that he “directed our military to continue the blockade” of Iran’s ports.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that Vice President JD Vance would not be traveling to Pakistan for what had been planned as a second round of peace talks.
A White House official said, “The trip to Pakistan will not be happening today. Any further updates on in-person meetings will be announced by the White House.”
Trump explained the failure of the talks as the result of internal divisions within Iran, stressing that Pakistan’s leaders had asked him to extend the ceasefire.
“Based on the fact that the government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
While the ceasefire is extended, Trump reiterated that the blockade of Iran’s ports in the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place, and the US military would “stay ready” for further action.
He said the ceasefire will be extended “until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other.”
KanyiDaily recalls that less than a day after reopening the Strait of Hormuz to ship traffic, Iran once again closed the key maritime route over the ongoing US blockage.
