The inauguration ceremony took place at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala after Museveni secured victory in Uganda’s January 2026 presidential election.
According to the election results, Museveni won 71.65 percent of the total votes cast, defeating opposition candidate Bobi Wine, who received 24.72 percent.
The 81-year-old leader was sworn in for another five-year term, further extending his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving presidents.
Yoweri Museveni has led Uganda since 1986 after taking power decades ago.
Born in 1944 in the Mbarara district area of Uganda, Museveni studied political science at the University of Dar es Salaam.
During his time at the university, he founded the University Students’ African Revolutionary Front.
