The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has announced plans for his funeral, with his burial set to take place on June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State.

In a statement shared on the actor’s Instagram page on Monday, the family said the late movie star, who passed away on May 11 at the age of 40, would be remembered through several funeral activities involving relatives, friends, colleagues, fans, and supporters.

The statement, signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke on behalf of the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family, described the actor as someone known for his kindness, generosity, cheerful nature, and strong faith in God.

The family also thanked Nigerians and fans around the world for the love, prayers, and support shown since his death.

The overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, messages, visits, calls, support, and strength shown to the family during this painful period has been truly humbling,” the statement read in part.

According to the funeral arrangements, a service of songs will hold on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Guests attending the event are expected to wear white outfits.

A wake keep will take place on June 17 at the family house in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.

His funeral service and burial are scheduled for June 18 in Arochukwu, after which guests will gather for a reception at Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village.

The actor’s death left many in the Nigerian entertainment industry in shock, with several actors, actresses, and celebrities mourning him on social media.

The family had revealed that Alexx Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer. They described his struggle with the illness as short but brave.

Born in Port Harcourt and originally from Arochukwu in Abia State, Ekubo became popular after finishing as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria competition before fully joining the movie industry.

During his acting career, he appeared in several successful Nollywood movies, including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
