Ex-Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo Dumps ADC Just Weeks After Joining

Aminu Gwarzo, a former deputy governor of Kano State, has dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) just one month after joining the party.

Aminu Gwarzo had moved to the ADC from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on April 5, where he was welcomed at a public event in Gwarzo town.

His switch came shortly after Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Kano governor, also joined the ADC on March 30, having contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP.

The situation changed when Kwankwaso and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi exited the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing “wide-ranging consultations” and uncertainties over the party’s future.

Kwankwaso later urged his supporters to follow him to the NDC and support his “renewed fight for true democracy” in Nigeria.

In a resignation letter dated May 1 and addressed to the ADC ward chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area, Gwarzo confirmed his decision to quit the party.

The letter, which he personally signed, stated that the move came after careful thinking and wide consultations with his supporters and political allies.

He did not reveal his next political step but explained that recent developments in the political space influenced his decision.

Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he said.

“My decision is informed by patriotic consideration and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development of our dear state.”

Aminu Gwarzo added that his decision was guided by his commitment to good governance, democratic principles, and long-term development.

I remain grateful for the opportunity accorded me under the platform of the party. Please accept my highest regards and best wishes,” he added.
