In a post on X, Edochie stated that he does not see Obi as a “true Igbo man,” claiming that he lacks what he described as the spirit of the Igbo people.

The actor referenced the Igbo value of “onye aghana nwanne ya” —a principle that encourages people to support and uplift one another.

Yul Edochie questioned Peter Obi’s record, arguing that despite his years in public office and business, he has not visibly helped others succeed.

He also claimed that Obi has not done enough to support even those close to him.

Using himself as an example, the actor said there are people in Nollywood who credit their success to his support, suggesting that such impact is an important measure of leadership.

He added that anyone who cannot improve the lives of people around them may find it difficult to bring meaningful change to the country as a whole.

Yul Edochie wrote, “Peter Obi is not a true Igbo man. He does not have the spirit of Ndi Igbo in him. He’s not a leader.

“The true spirit of Ndi Igbo is ‘onye aghana nwanne ya’. As you rise you lift others.

“How can you spend many years in power, many years as a successful business man, yet nobody can say he’s successful today because of you. You can’t even lift your family members.

“In Nollywood, there are people who will tell you they’re successful today because of Yul Edochie.

“Not one person can say that about Peter Obi. Are you a saddist? What are you doing with the power God has given you?

“If you can’t lift people around you out of poverty, you simply can’t lift Nigeria out of poverty.”
