Nollywood actress and African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Doris Ogala, has accused Governor Alex Otti of introducing high billboard permit fees because he is afraid of her.

The Abia State Government announced in July that political candidates would have to pay for permits before using billboards and posters for campaign activities.

Under the new charges, presidential candidates are required to pay N200 million, while governorship candidates will pay N150 million.

Senatorial candidates will pay N100 million, with House of Representatives and state assembly candidates paying N50 million and N20 million respectively.

Doris Ogala is preparing to challenge Otti, who is seeking a second term under the Labour Party (LP), in next year’s governorship election.

Speaking on The Clarity Zone podcast, the actress alleged that the new fees were designed to limit her campaign because she would struggle to afford them.

She claimed Otti was concerned about her growing popularity and support at the grassroots.

Ogala said she was ready to continue campaigning even without billboards and challenged the governor to remove any billboard she puts up.

Which law says that? I dare him to pull down my billboard if I put it up, and if he does, we will campaign without billboards. How much did he pay during his own time?” she said.

“He is afraid of me, my popularity and the love the people are showing me. That’s why he made that law. He knows APC and PDP candidates can afford it, and I’m the only one who can’t, working with the poor, managing my life and trying to rescue the state.

“They’re afraid of me. Alex is scared of me because he knows I have the capacity; people love me, and I have grassroots support.”

Doris Ogala also described herself as the strongest opposition candidate in the race.

The actress criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party is divided, while also claiming she is more capable than the APC candidate.
