EFCC Arrests Six Nigerians And Two Chinese Nationals For Illegal Mining In Ogun

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two Chinese nationals and six Nigerians over their alleged involvement in illegal mining in Ogere, Ogun State.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the arrest was made by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate, Ikoyi, during a sting operation on Friday, May 9, 2025.

According to him, the individuals taken into custody are Zhang Hang Lin, Gao Pei Hai, Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Ajibola Nurudeen, Ibrahim Yinusa, and Saidu Shuaibu.

During the operation, the EFCC recovered three trucks filled with sacks believed to contain ground lithium powder.

Other items seized include unidentified solid minerals, a Toyota 4Runner SUV, mobile phones, samples suspected to be low-grade lithium, ATM cards, international passports, four LED flashlights, and additional items.
