NCAA Files Petition To Prosecute Kwam 1 De Ultimate Over ValueJet Flight Incident

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has asked the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate an incident involving ValueJet airline and well-known Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly called Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate.

The event, which took place on Tuesday, reportedly disrupted normal flight procedures and raised concerns about passenger conduct and adherence to aviation safety rules.

Preliminary reports suggest that K1 De Ultimate’s actions on ValueJet flight VK201 may have violated the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.

KanyiDaily recalls there was an altercation involving Kwam 1 and ValueJet airline officials, where he was accused of breaching aviation safety protocols at Abuja Airport by attempting to board a domestic flight with an unidentified liquid, which turned out to be alcohol, something prohibited on board Nigerian flights.

In a statement on Thursday, the NCAA said its petition urged the AGF and IGP to carry out a full investigation and, if necessary, begin appropriate prosecution in line with the 2023 Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations and other relevant laws.

To further ensure compliance and accountability, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has advised the Airline Operators of Nigeria to consider placing K1 De Ultimate on a No-Fly List for all commercial flights until the investigation is concluded.

The NCAA explained that such measures follow global aviation standards aimed at protecting passengers, crew, and airline operations.

The statement read, “In a letter addressed to both the Attorney-General and the Inspector-General of Police, the NCAA called for a comprehensive criminal investigation and the initiation of appropriate prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation regulations 2023 supra and all other applicable laws.

“Furthermore, and in light of the growing concern, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has also issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria, urging the immediate consideration and institution of a No-Fly List for K1 De Ultimate (on any commercial flight), pending the outcome of official investigations.

“This advisory is in line with global aviation standards that prioritise the safety of passengers, crew, and airline operations.

“The NCAA reiterates its commitment to ensuring that no individual, regardless of their status or public image, undermines the integrity of our aviation industry as passengers are held to the same standards of behavior and compliance within Nigeria’s airspace.”

The aviation authority reaffirmed its stance that no passenger, regardless of fame or social status, should be allowed to compromise aviation safety or discipline.

It emphasised that strict behaviour standards apply to all travellers within Nigeria’s airspace, as any act that threatens lives or disrupts flight integrity will not be tolerated.

This comes after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed the NCAA to place Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka Kwam 1, on a temporary no-fly list.
