The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned its members to stop publicly supporting President Bola Tinubu or face tougher disciplinary action.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) said such actions go against the PDP’s constitution and threaten the unity and future of the party.
The statement, signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, condemned members who have declared support for Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” the NWC said.
Citing Section 59(1), the party warned that those involved in such actions would face harsher penalties if they failed to change course.
The PDP leadership expressed concern that some influential figures within the party have continued to speak against the PDP in the media while openly backing President Tinubu’s re-election.
According to the NWC, this behaviour is causing internal divisions, dissatisfaction among members, and a weakening of the party’s electoral chances if left unaddressed.
“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP constitution provides that ‘No member of the party shall align with other parties or groups to undermine the party or any of its elected government’.
“Such anti-party activities have continued to negatively impact the PDP, leading to division, disaffection, and heavy hemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked,” the statement read.
Despite the tension, the party called on loyal members to stay united and committed, especially as preparations continue for the PDP’s National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The warning comes as more internal cracks emerge, with some senior party members publicly endorsing Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid, defying the PDP’s stance as the country’s main opposition party.
