Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has visited Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the detained lawyer representing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, along with Kanu’s younger brother Emmanuel and other protesters detained over the recent demonstration in Abuja.

Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and 11 others were arrested on October 20, 2025, during a peaceful rally demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.

The protest, which took place outside the Kuje Prison, later led to formal charges including criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, disobeying lawful orders, and disturbing public peace.

A magistrate court in the Federal Capital Territory ordered that all the accused be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre while their case proceeds.

Sowore shared the latest update on Wednesday in a post on X, explaining that he had a “productive meeting” with the detained lawyers and activists.

He noted that, despite the situation, they are maintaining strong morale, stressing that efforts are underway to secure their release as soon as possible, praising the group for staying firm in their demand for justice and freedom.

Sowore also accused officers of the FCT Police Command of further mistreating the protesters after his earlier visit, claiming they fired tear gas at them before transferring them to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) detention facility.

He strongly condemned the incident and renewed his call for the removal of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, insisting that the leadership of the police has failed.

He said, “We had a productive meeting today with Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister @AloyEjimakor, his brother Emmanuel Kanu, Barr. Wisdom Okere, and 10 others who were arrested and brutalized by the Nigeria Police Force for participating in a peaceful #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest at Kuje Prison.”

“Despite the challenges they face, they are all in high spirits as we push for their release to continue the fight against oppression.

“Unfortunately, the @FCT_PoliceNG Command further maltreated them after we parted ways on Monday, by heavily unleashing tear gas against them within their premises before detaining them at the notorious #SARS Abattoir.”

“This is highly condemnable, and we will continue to demand the removal of the illegal Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egberokun, for his irresponsible leadership. #FreeNnamdiKanuNow,” he said.

KanyiDaily earlier reported how the police used teargas on commuters in Abuja’s Central Business District during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.
