Wrestling stars from some countries of the world will start arriving Lagos today ahead of the BRF Wrestlemania 2011, which will be staged from 12-16 September.

The Intercontinental Wrestling Championship is packaged to honour the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, for his contribution to sports development in the country.

Wrestlers from Norway, Scotland and the United Kingdom will hit Lagos tonight, while those from African countries like Cameroon, Congo DR and Congo Brazaville will arrive tomorrow. Wrestlers from South Africa, Austria, Hong Kong, America, Mexico, Kuwait and Holland are expected to hit Lagos on Sunday.

According to the Coordinator of the championship, Prince Hammed Mohammed, most of the local wrestlers who will fight in the four-day championship have been in Lagos perfecting their strategies ahead of the tourney.

“We have local stars like Rushing Belt, Strong Bone, Rocky Johnson, Super Rosco, Hot Temper, Iron Scatter, Tony Destroyer, Super Hercule and Mighty Man on the bill. They are camped at the hostel of the Nigeria Institute of Sports, NIS, before they will be moved to our hotel, Durban Hotel, in Ogba on Sunday.

“Some of the foreign wrestlers are Michael Kovak from Hong Kong, Scotland’s Martin Uhban, Chris Botherway from United Kingdom and Bambikiler from Austria,” he said.

Chairman, Publicity Committee of the tourney, Chief Ifeanyi Obila, said all hands are on deck to ensure that a befitting competition is organised to honour of Governor Fashola.
