Popular Islamist Who Preached Chastity Caught Having S*x on the Beach

Dailystar reports that Moulay Omar Benhammad, 63, and Fatima Nejjar, 62, were arrested by police after they were allegedly caught in a “sexual position” in their car.

Benhammad, a married dad-of-seven, has been charged with adultery and “attempted corruption” of the police during his arrest at Manasoria Beach near Casablanca, in Morocco.

The Koran professor and doctor of Islamic Studies could face up to one year in prison for extramarital affair. The woman who is a widow and mum-of-six has been booked as an accomplice.

In their defense, the two people involved told police they were in a “customary marriage”  blessed by Benhammad’s wife. But, the police refused to entertain the excuse as customary marriages are prohibited under Islamic and Moroccan law.

The pair are vice presidents for the Islamic Unity and Reform Movement, a wing of the Islamic Justice and Development Party. They have now been suspended from the movement. Speaking about the incident, a party spokesman said the pair’s actions violated the movement’s values.
