Court Fines DSS N100,000, Orders Immediate Release Of Omoyele Sowore Within 24 Hours

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to release Revolution Now Convener, Omoyele Sowore, within 24 hours.

Justice Ojukwu expressed her anger over continued detention of the Sowere and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare by DSS in disobedience to an express order of the court that they should be released on bail pending the determination of treasonable felony charge the Federal Government preferred against them.

Consequently, she awarded a N100,000 fine against the DSS over its delay to serve the defence counsel with the additional proof of evidence in the ongoing trial of Sowore and Olawale Bakare.

The judge said the fine must be paid to the defendants before the next adjourned date of December 6, 2019, which is tomorrow.

KanyIadily had reported that Sowore was arrested at about 11 pm on August 2 by DSS operatives and has since been in detention despite two orders to the DSS for his release.

The two accused are facing trial on seven counts of treasonable felony, fraud, cyber-stalking and insulting President Muhammadu Buhari.
