The head of the Anglican Church’s Manicaland Diocese in Zimbabwe, Bishop Eric Ruwona was arrested and detained for serial bank fraud, theft of the church’s funds and corruption.

Bishop Eric Ruwona has been arrested on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission in connection with fraud involving $700 000.

The cleric and his accomplices were alleged to have used Manicaland Diocese to apply for a loan of $100 000 from Agribank 2016, claiming they wanted to built Saint Catherine’s Girls High School in Rusape and buy a vehicle for his use.

The bishop allegedly used a piece of land belonging to the church as collateral without the knowledge of the church standing committee and congregants.

As a result of the alleged misrepresentation, the loan was approved and the accused persons pocketed the money without using it for its intended purpose.

On the second count, Bishop Ruwona in the same year fraudulently applied for another loan from the same bank for $350,000, using church property as collateral, and then stealing the loan proceeds.

The third count alleges the bishop and his confederates in the diocesan offices overdrew the diocese’s bank account at Agribank by $250,000 and stole the money without the knowledge of the church.

Bishop Ruwona spent the night at Mutare Central Police Station and is expected to appear in court today (Wednesday).

Meanwhile, controversy rose over the modelling of skimpy beach wear during a fashion show at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral on Sunday.

The viral photos and videos of models in skimpy bathing suits, walking down the aisle of the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral, has caused a lot of outrage among Christians with some people questioning the appropriateness of the situation.
