UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson Admitted To Hospital Over ‘Persistent’ Coronavirus Symptoms

Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital for tests, 10 days after testing positive for coronavirus.

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson was admitted to hospital for tests on Sunday after suffering persistent coronavirus symptoms.

This is coming 10 days after he tested positive for the deadly virus and insisted that he will continue to lead the government against th pandemic.

BBC quoted a UK government spokesperson as saying Johnson was taken to a London hospital on Sunday evening on the advice of his doctor after continuing to show “persistent symptoms” – including a high temperature.

The spokesperson, however, insisted that Johnson’s hospital admission was not an “emergency” measure but had merely been for precautionary reasons in order to carry out tests.

“On the advice of his doctor, the prime minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus.”

The spokesperson said Johnson would stay in hospital “as long as needed”, adding that the Prime Minister will remain in charge of his government, and will be in regular touch with colleagues and civil servants.

However, government aides have reportedly become “increasingly worried” about the prime minister’s health in recent days, according to multiple reports, with Johnson heard “coughing and spluttering” his way through conference calls.

Johnson was “more seriously ill than either he or his officials were prepared to admit,” according to the Guardian , who report a source suggesting that Johnson “was being seen by doctors who were concerned about his breathing.”

Meanwhile, Prince Charles of Wales had also tested positive for coronavirus, but later recovered.

At least 47,800 persons in the UK have so far been diagnosed of the disease which has killed a total of 4,934 in that country.

The number of cases globally now stands at 1,265,976 with close to 70,000 deaths and 260,967 recoveries.
