Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has been moved to Aso Rock Villa to face an inter-agency committee set up to investigate allegations of corruption against him.
KanyiDaily had earlier reported that Magu was arrested on Monday, July 6, 2029, at the EFCC office by a combined team of policemen and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The EFCC Boss was accused of corruption and money laundering based on allegations that he owns four questionable properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party.
A fresh report from SaharaReporters indicates that Magu has been moved to Aso Rock Villa after his arrest to face investigative panel created by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The publication quoted sources at the Aso Rock Villa saying that Magu might be detained if the presidential committee recommends detention for further investigation or released to go after today’s proceedings.
The source added that it is unclear why the security agency arrested Magu when he could have been invited to the committee without any show of force.
His arrest comes a few days after the attorney-general of the federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami accused the anti-graft agency chairman of gross infractions.
The AGF asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Magu over some “weighty” allegations, including the diversion of recovered loot.
In addition to allegedly re-looting the recovered loot, Malami accused the acting EFCC chairman of insubordination and misconduct.
