President Buhari has announced Dr. Uzoma Emenike as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the USA.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr. Uzoma Emenike as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the United States of America (USA).

The appointment was disclosed by the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, on his Twitter page on Tuesday evening.

According to Ogunlesi, Dr. Emenike is currently Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ireland, with concurrent accreditation to Iceland.

With her appointment, Dr. Emenike who hails from Abia State, has made history as the first female Nigerian ambassador to the USA.

She holds BSc in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Maiduguri, Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos LL.B from the University of Reading in the UK.

Other academic achievements include a Master’s in International Management from the University of Reading and a Doctorate in International Relations also from the University of Reading.

The 55-year-old is married to Chief Ikechi Emenike and has four children.

Dr. Emenike’s appointment is coming following the death of Sylvanus Nsofor, Nigeria’s former ambassador to the United States, on December 10, 2020.
