The longest reigning first class traditional ruler in Niger state and Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Saidu Umaru Namaska has died at the age of 84 after a brief illness.

According to Daily Trust, Alhaji Namaska died in the early hours of Thursday at an Abuja hospital after spending 47 years on the throne.

The late monarch, who is survived by wives and children, was born in 1937, and was enthroned on 15 January 1974 to succeed Alhaji Saidu Sarkin Kudu.
