Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has lauded the National Assembly for issuing a six-week ultimatum on President Muhammadu Buhari to step up the fight against insecurity or risk being impeached.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Senate had given President Buhari six weeks to address the insecurity or face impeachment by both chambers of the National Assembly.
On Friday, Governor Ortom received a delegation of some members of the national assembly led by Philip Aduda, senate minority leader in Abuja.
In a statement by his spokesman, Nathaniel Ikyur, the governor said Buhari has performed below the expectations of Nigerians in terms of addressing security and economic challenges.
“The governor described the decision of both the senate and the house of representatives to impeach the President as ‘patriotic’ and particularly commended some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who have opted to do the ‘right thing’.
“According to Governor Ortom, President Buhari has performed far below the expectations of Nigerians in solving both the security and economic challenges of the country, and so needs to give way for a more competent person,” the statement reads.
On his part, Aduda said the delegation considered it appropriate to inform Ortom of their decision regarding the impeachment threat against Buhari.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Northern Elders had also said that those around President Muhammadu Buhari should ask him to resign due to the alarming rate of insecurity and socio-economic problems facing the country.
