The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Musiliu Smith has resigned from his position.
This was confirmed by the PSC Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani on Wednesday.
Though, Ani said smith resigned based on health grounds, his resignation may not be unconnected to the the controversy trailing the commission’s recruitment of constables.
The PSC and the office of the Inspector General of Police are said to have been in a running battle over which body has the right to conduct the recruitment into the force.
The PSC had advertised recruitment for constables and urged interested applicants to visit its website to apply.
But the police in a statement urged members of the public to discard the notice, insisting that the recruitment process is the sole responsibility of the force.
Reports say the Board of the PSC asked Smith, who is former Inspector General of Police to resign and he accepted.
