The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has mourned Pope Emeritus, Pope Benedict XVI, who died on Saturday.
The Vatican announced that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died at the age of 95.
His death on Saturday came days after Pope Francis had asked for prayers for his predecessor, saying he was “very sick”.
The Holy See Press Office said Benedict, the first German pope in 1,000 years, died at the Mater Ecclesiae monastery, which he had chosen as his residence after resigning in 2013.
Reacting to his death in a tweet on his Twitter handle on Saturday, Obi said the late pope remained a real shepherd of God’s people.
According to him, the pope left indelible historical marks.
The former Anambra governor added that the service of the late pope to God and humanity as a priest and archbishop bore eloquent witness to his genuine love for God and man.
He wrote, “Farewell Pope Emeritus, Pope Benedict XVI. Over the years, Pope Benedict remained a real shepherd of God’s people.
“He left indelible historical marks. His service to God and to humanity as a Priest, Archbishop, Cardinal, and Pope bore eloquent witness to his genuine love for God and man. Rest on Pope Benedict XVI.”
