Dapo Abiodun Defeats Ladi Adebutu, Re-Elected For Second Term As Ogun Governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, winner of the governorship election in the state.

Abiodun, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner by Prof Kayode Adebowale, the state returning officer in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Ogun State.

He polled 276,298 to defeat his closest rivals — Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 262,383 as well as Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who got 94,754 votes and who has the backing of former governor and serving APC senator, Ibikunle Amosun.

“That Abiodun Adedapo Oluseun of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned election,” Adebowale stated.

Adebowale said 2,688,305 was the total registered voters while accredited voters were 666,406.

Adebowale said a total of 645,133 votes were valid while 18,835 votes were rejected. He said a total of 663, 968 votes were cast .

The APC won 12 local government areas of the state while PDP won eight local government areas.

The APC won in Odeda, Egbado-North, Egbado-South, Ewekoro, Ijebu-North, Ijebu-Ode, Ipokia, Abeokuta-North. Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, Obafemi-Owode and Imeko-Afon local government areas of the state.

The PDP won in Abeokuta-South, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu-North/East, Ikenne, Ijebu-East, Remo-North, Odogbolu, and Sagamu.

KanyiDaily recalls that the incumbent Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was also declared as winner of the governorship election in the state.
