Seemed Seun’s Family Was In Danger – Peter Okoye ‘Defends’ Singer Over Altercation With Policeman

According to him, it was an unfortunate incident.

Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye has tendered an unreserved apology to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) on behalf of his colleague, Seun Kuti following the latter’s altercation with a policeman last Saturday, May 13.

Kuti was seen in a viral video, pushing and also slapping a policeman on the Third mainland bridge in Lagos State.

The singer, who is the youngest child of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti while assaulting the officer was heard saying, “You dey crase, you dey mad?”, but the cop kept his cool throughout the whole confrontation.

Subsequently, the Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest the singer for assaulting a police officer in uniform.

Alkali Baba equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Peter Okoye, who a few months ago, had a beef with Seun, pleaded with the police force to temper justice with mercy on his colleague.

According to him, it was an unfortunate incident.

He added, however, that Seun’s action may have been triggered, going by reports which suggest his family may have been in danger hence the altercation.

He wrote in part, “When you understand what happens when a man is put in a situation to protect his family from any form of danger, our emotions get the better of us.

“I ask and plead that the #NigerianPoliceForce accept our unreserved apologies for the unfortunate outburst and tamper justice with mercy.”

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the singer has since broken his silence over the assault incident.

In a series of posts on his Twitter handle, the musician claimed that the policeman attempted to kill him and his family members. He said the policeman has apologized and he has forgiven him.

Kuti, who also reacted to the order for his arrest, promised to cooperate with the police authorities, stressing that whoever was wrong should be punished.
