President Tinubu suspends CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele with immediate Effect

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.

Emefiele’s sack comes up amid the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.

Three months ago, Godwin Emefiele denied reports that he was plotting against the then President-elect, Bola Tinubu. He also also debunked reports that he provided funds to the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor.

Recall that the CBN Governor also picked the N100 million presidential nomination forms to contest the presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
