Sister Of Lady Who Died At Asake’s Concert Slams Him Over His Tribute At London Concert

Nigerian singer, Asake has been lambasted by Rachael Iku, the sister of the late Rebecca Ikumelo, who tragically passed away at his London concert last year.

KanyiDaily had reported how Asake’s Brixton concert was canceled part-way after the crowd breached the doors and security, leaving some of the fans injured on Thursday night, December 15, 2022.

On Saturday morning, December 17, a mother-of-two identified as Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, from Newham, east London, died from her injuries in the hospital.

Another woman, Gabriella Hutchinson, who works as a security guard, also died after sustaining injuries in a crush at Asake’s concert at the O2 Brixton Academy.

Asake had sent his condolence to the families of the deceased, saying he was devastated by her passing as he never imagined such a thing would happen.

Just last night, August 20, 2023, Asake captivated the London audience with a remarkable performance at the packed 02 Arena.

Before commencing his performance, the singer paid tribute to the two women who lost their lives during his December concert in London.

A video was displayed at the venue, accompanied by an emotional homage, dedicated to the departed Rebecca Ikumelo and Gabrielle Hutchinson.

During this somber moment of remembrance, the entire audience shared in a collective emotion, observing a minute of silence to honor those who had passed.

However, Rachael Ikumelo took to Twitter to express her frustration and disappointment, describing Asake’s tribute as inadequate.

She criticized him for using her sister’s image without reaching out to them personally, considering his tribute to be a mere token gesture.

Rachael stated that since the tragic incident, her family had not received any communication from Asake, yet he was performing in the same country a mere 9 months after her sister’s passing.

“What a sorry excuse of a “tribute” from @asakemusik. My sister lost her life at your show and you haven’t spoken to a single member of my family since. But you can hold another concert in London less than 9 months later and play their videos as a “tribute”?

RIP Rebecca Ikumelo”

“RIP my sister Rebecca Ikumelo and also to Gaby Hutchinson”.

“Are you actually ok? Asake has not spoken to my family or I since the initial message exchanged when my sister passed away,” she tweeted.

KanyiDaily had also reported how Asake expressed generosity by gifting his fans $100 notes each during his concert in Birmingham, England.
