Ayra Starr, who has openly expressed her admiration for Rihanna as a role model, has long harbored the desire to collaborate with the Barbadian superstar.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ayra Starr commended Rihanna’s influence on her artistry, citing her as a source of inspiration and empowerment.
Ayra Starr expressed her profound connection with Rihanna’s “Anti” album, describing it as a timeless masterpiece that continues to resonate with her.
She said, “I adore Rihanna. My biggest inspiration is her. My matriarch is her. She reigns as my queen. Her “Anti” album is classic. I always listen to it. I’m understanding it more and more as I listen to it. I’m really fond of it.
“What I’ve heard from Rihanna is that I should be myself and know who I am; whatever works for me is okay, and if something doesn’t work for me, that’s okay too. I will simply be myself in every circumstance.”
During a recent Fenty event, Rihanna personally expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Ayra Starr. They engaged in a conversation on the black carpet.
Rihanna revealed that her love for Ayra Starr’s music was ignited by her cousin from Barbados, who introduced her to the Nigerian artist’s work.
Expressing her cousin’s obsession with Ayra Starr’s music, Rihanna expressed genuine interest in a potential collaboration.
In their exchange, Rihanna also inquired about Ayra Starr’s collaboration with her fellow singer Tems.
Ayra Starr disclosed that while they have collaborated on songs, they have yet to release a joint track.
However, she hinted at future collaborations, prompting Rihanna to suggest that she had an extra verse ready whenever they were ready to collaborate.
Rihanna said, “I’ve been hearing of Ayra Starr, I don’t know who but my cousin she was like, ‘Oh my God I got this [song] from Ayra Starr.’ She was obsessed with you.”
She then asked, “Do you have a song with Tems?”
Ayra Starr replied, “That’s my sister. We do have songs but we don’t have a song [out] yet. But soon..”
Rihanna added, “You got an extra verse for me? Call me.”
