Yuletide: President Tinubu Reduces Interstate Transport Fares By 50% For Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has approved a 50% reduction in interstate transport fares during the Yuletide season to ease travel costs for Nigerians celebrating Christmas and New Year.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement by Olujimi Oyetomi, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Transportation.

Oyetomi said that, as part of the 2024 Yuletide transportation plan, passengers traveling by road will pay only half the usual fares.

To commence the 2024 Yuletide road transportation, passengers will board buses to their destinations for only 50% of fares, as declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

The statement explained that this initiative is part of the government’s effort to provide financial relief during the festive season.

The signing of the agreement was overseen by the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Adeleye Adeoye.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Federal Government and major transport stakeholders, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria (ALBON), and God is Good Motors.

As a result of this partnership, passengers traveling from Abuja and Lagos (Oshodi) to other destinations nationwide will benefit from the 50% fare reduction.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu also authorized free train rides across Nigeria from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025, to reduce transportation costs during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
