Lagos State House of Assembly has sworn in Mojisola Meranda as its first female Speaker.
Meranda was sworn in on Monday during a plenary session, following the impeachment of former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Representing Apapa Constituency I, Meranda was elected immediately after Obasa’s removal, having previously served as his Deputy.
During her oath of office, Meranda pledged to carry out her duties with integrity, stating, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, the former Deputy Chief Whip, has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
