Kano Government To Spend N2.5bn On Mass Weddings, N1bn For Ramadan Feeding

The Kano State Government has set aside N2.5 billion to fund quarterly mass weddings across its 44 local government areas in 2025.

State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono shared this information while breaking down the recently approved 2025 budget.

He explained that the mass wedding program is part of the N91.32 billion earmarked for governance and service delivery, which includes several social initiatives.

In addition to the wedding program, Shanono said the government has allocated N1 billion for Ramadan feeding programs and N955 million for surveys on workforce statistics, household demographics, and the enumeration of out-of-school children.

Other allocations include N1.049 billion for acquiring printing machines, upgrading the general water system, and improving the Government Printing Press library.

The state has also budgeted N267.6 million for infrastructure development, printing the Islamic calendar, and supporting Islamic Da’wah programs, including aid for new converts to Islam.

Furthermore, N589 million will go toward security research, programs to address street begging, and empowerment initiatives.

Another N200 million has been set aside for office furniture, maintaining the Accountant-General’s office, and public finance management reforms.

Shanono revealed that the total 2025 budget stands at N719.75 billion, reflecting a 31% increase from the N549.16 billion originally submitted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

This budget includes N262.67 billion for recurrent expenses and N457.08 billion for capital projects.

Compared to the 2024 budget, this represents a 65% rise, with an additional N282.41 billion allocated for various developmental projects.
