Atiku Commends NYSC Member Who Criticized Tinubu, Urges Support Amid Threats

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised the courage and intelligence of Ushie Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos, who spoke out against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Uguamaye, also known as Raye, recently shared a video highlighting the economic struggles Nigerians have faced since Tinubu took office.

However, after her criticism went viral, she claimed she received threats—including a phone call from an NYSC official warning her about the video.

In another TikTok post, she shared a screenshot of a message allegedly from NYSC authorities, instructing her to report to the Eti-Osa Local Government office.

Raye expressed fear for her safety, saying anonymous individuals had also been threatening her.

Reacting to the situation, Atiku commended Raye for her bravery, describing her as part of a new generation of women dedicated to advocacy and civic engagement.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the former vice president called her a symbol of fearless political participation, stressing that instead of being threatened, Raye deserves encouragement and support.

He also compared Raye to legendary Nigerian female activists such as Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo, who fought for justice and democracy.

He tweeted, “Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition.

“She follows in the footsteps of formidable trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and countless other women who have stood resolute in defense of the common good.

“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Atiku Abubakar previously slammed President Bola Tinubu for the arrest, and detention of minors involved in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
