FG Declares Monday, Tuesday As Public Holidays For Eid-el-Fitr Celebration

The federal government has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays in honor of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Magdalene Ajani, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed the holiday announcement.

Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo called on Muslims to uphold values such as self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace. He highlighted the importance of love, forgiveness, and unity in fostering a peaceful society.

He also encouraged Nigerians to use this festive period to pray for the country’s peace, stability, and progress. He emphasized that Eid-el-Fitr should serve as a reminder of the need for national unity and cooperation.

The minister also urged people to celebrate in a responsible and considerate manner, showing kindness to the less privileged in line with the true essence of Ramadan and Eid.

On behalf of the federal government, Tunji-Ojo extended warm Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful, hoping that the occasion brings joy, success, and fulfillment to everyone.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid,” the statement reads.

“On behalf of the Federal Government, he extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful and prayed that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone.”
