Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded that Governor Siminalayi Fubara resign from office within 48 hours or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
The APC Chairman in Rivers, Chief Tony Okocha made this call while speaking to journalists on Monday, March 10, at his private residence in Port Harcourt.
Okocha accused Governor Fubara of disrespecting President Bola Tinubu, particularly during efforts to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.
“As a political party, we are today advising the governor; there are two options, resign honourably or be impeached.
“That is the position of the All Progressives Congress. He has disrespected Mr. President and we told him that we cannot be here and have him disrespect Mr. President,” Okocha stated.
He further claimed that the Supreme Court had provided additional evidence against Fubara, making an investigative committee unnecessary.
“The offences are there; the Supreme Court has agreed and even provided us with more evidences. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him.
“48 hours is too much to give him as ultimatum. He should just resign honourably,” he added.
This ultimatum comes just days after the Supreme Court ruled that 26 lawmakers, loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, should be reinstated after defecting from the PDP to the APC.
KanyiDaily recalls that Rivers State House of Assembly had issued a 48-hour deadline for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 budget for legislative review.
