Governor Umar Bago Orders Arrest Of People With Dreadlocks In Niger State [Video]

Niger State Governor Umar Bago has directed security officers in Minna, the state capital, to arrest anyone seen with dreadlocks.

The governor made this known during a security meeting with traditional rulers and security agencies at the government house on Tuesday.

Umar Bago said people arrested with dreadlocks should have their hair cut off and be made to pay a fine.

He warned that his government will not tolerate unruly behavior and has instructed law enforcement to act immediately.

Anybody that you find with dreadlocks, arrest, barb the hair, and fine the person,” the governor stated.

“Nobody should carry any kind of haircut inside Minna. I have given marching orders to security agencies.”

The governor also ordered that anyone caught carrying weapons should be treated as a criminal, labeling such people as armed robbers.

In another move, Bago announced a restriction on the movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Minna, effective from 6pm to 6am.

However, he made it clear that those using them for medical emergencies would be allowed.

The governor stressed the need to tackle rising insecurity and warned he won’t allow criminals to operate freely in the state.

He further instructed local leaders—district, village, and ward heads—to maintain proper records of people living in their areas.

Bago also said any building found to be sheltering criminals or used for illegal drug activities will be demolished.
