Dr. Idris Abdulaziz Dutsen Tanshi, the Chief Imam of Dutsen Tanshi Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi State, has passed away.

The Islamic scholar died on Thursday evening in Bauchi, as confirmed by his close associates and a post on the mosque’s official Facebook page, Dutsen Tanshi Majlis Bauchi.

According to a brief announcement on the same page, his funeral prayer is scheduled to take place in Bauchi by 10 a.m. on Friday.

Sources revealed that Dr. Tanshi had been battling an undisclosed illness for a while. He was recently flown back to Nigeria from India, where he had gone for medical treatment.

Due to his prolonged health issues, Dr Idris Dutsen Tanshi was unable to deliver the annual Tafsir sermons for the 2025 Ramadan period.

The late scholar was a prominent Salafi preacher known for his outspoken views, which often led to clashes with government officials, traditional rulers, the police, and other Islamic groups, including Izala and Tariqa.

In his final instructions, Dr. TanshiDr Idris Dutsen Tanshi requested that no photographs be taken during his funeral.

He also prohibited memorial gatherings at his residence, discouraged people from struggling to touch his body, and asked that no one wear shoes into the cemetery.

Dr. Tanshi held a degree in Islamic Law from the Islamic University of Madinah and earned a PhD in Islamic Jurisprudence from Sudan.

In a condolence message, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, prayed that his soul finds peace in Jannatul Firdaus.
