A Nigerian man, Chinecherem Emmanuel Ike, was caught at Davao International Airport in the Philippines trying to enter the country using fake student documents.

The incident happened on Sunday, May 25, 2025, and is part of the government’s effort to tighten border security, as ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The aim is to stop individuals with criminal backgrounds or those who could become a burden on public resources from entering the country.
Joel Anthony Viado, the country’s Immigration Commissioner, confirmed that the 20-year-old tried to enter the Philippines by pretending to be a student.
He presented a fake admission letter and a suspicious email claiming he planned to study business administration.
Authorities denied him entry on May 17 and immediately sent him back to his home country. He has also been permanently banned from returning to the Philippines.
Viado stated that the Bureau of Immigration is committed to enforcing the law and making sure only legitimate travelers are allowed in.
“In addition to the falsified letter claiming he intended to study business administration, the individual presented a dubious email saying that he is coming to the country to study.
“The Bureau remains firm in enforcing immigration laws. We have a duty to ensure that only those who comply with our laws are allowed entry,” Viado stressed.
KanyiDaily recalls that a 36-year-old Nigerian man, Nnaemeka Nwoke alias Eggy, was arrested by the police with over N40m worth of drugs in Las Piñas City, in the Philippines.
