The shooting happened along Gbagi Market Road as police pursued a car believed to be driven by suspected internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo Boys.”
In the process, a bullet missed its intended target and struck the student, who was riding on a motorcycle with his twin brother on their way to sit for the WAEC exam.
The boy was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was confirmed dead upon arrival.
Viral videos from the scene showed the lifeless body of the student on a stretcher, with a visible gunshot wound near his waist.
Blood was also seen on the hospital floor, as onlookers expressed grief and outrage, accusing the police of recklessness and repeated abuse of power in the area.
In protest, angry residents and traders carried the boy’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice and an end to what they described as unchecked police violence.
Security forces were later deployed to the government complex to manage the crowd, as tensions rose and protesters called for an overhaul of police conduct.
At the time of this report, neither the Oyo State Police Command nor the state government had released an official statement about the incident.

I'm broken. I'm exhausted.
Imagine an innocent boy who left home with hopes for the future, having his life cut short because some policemen got overly excited and pulled the trigger.
Ah.💔
