This happened during a visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who was in the state for an official event.
Traditionally, the governor’s wife is expected to speak before the First Lady during such occasions.
However, the women in attendance protested when the wife of the state’s sole administrator stepped up to speak.
The women demanded the return of their elected governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and insisted that only his wife, Valeria, should represent them.
One of the women shouted, “We want Sim. If it is not Valeria, we do not want anybody again.”
Another, visibly upset, said, “Who is that impostor? Ibas’s wife is addressing Rivers women. Who is she? Come on pack your load madam!”
The crowd also made it clear they were there to hear from Oluremi Tinubu, not the wife of someone they described as a “stranger.”
“We want Mrs Oluremi Tinubu to come and address the women. She is the one we have waited for. We don’t need the wife of a stranger! We want Sim right now, today not tomorrow,” they said.
One woman added, “She should go to Calabar and collect first lady. We want Sim”
KanyiDaily recalls that Rivers women recently held a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt, demanding the return of peace in Rivers State and the reinstatement of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
