Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr has scored a major win at the 2025 BET Awards, taking home the Best International Act title.
The Nigerian star faced strong competition from other top global artists, including Tyla from South Africa, Ghana’s Black Sherif, and fellow Nigerian singer Rema.
Ayra Starr’s victory is a major step forward in her career, further proving her growing influence on the global music stage.
The BET Awards are known for celebrating excellence in entertainment, particularly highlighting Black talent and cultural impact.
Ayra Starr has been gaining recognition from BET for a few years now. She was nominated for Best New International Act in 2022, then again for Best International Act in 2023.
In 2024, her hit “Commas” earned her a BET Her Award nomination. And in 2025, she earned nods in three big categories: Best New Artist, Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, and Best International Act, eventually winning the latter.
This year’s show was hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart and brought together top names from music, film, television, and sports.
It was a night full of unforgettable performances and big wins for both veterans and rising stars.
Kendrick Lamar emerged as one of the night’s biggest winners.
He took home four major awards, including Album of the Year for GNX, Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year for “Not Like Us,” and Best Collaboration with SZA for their powerful duet “Luther.”
