PDP NWC Affirms Wike’s Ally, Sam Anyanwu As Party’s National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed Samuel Anyanwu, an ally of the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, as its national secretary.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, PDP’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, announced that Anyanwu will take up the role and resume his duties as national secretary.

The battle over the position of national secretary has been a major source of tension in the PDP, with Samuel Anyanwu at the centre of the dispute.

Back in December 2024, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Sunday Ude-Okoye, declaring that he should replace Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.

Around the same time, the PDP’s South-East zonal executive also endorsed Ude-Okoye for the role, citing the fact that Anyanwu had contested as the PDP’s governorship candidate in Imo State during the 2023 election.

Despite that, Anyanwu fought back by securing multiple court orders to block efforts to remove him from the position.

However, on December 20, 2024, Appeal Court Judge Ridwan Abdullahi overturned the earlier High Court ruling that had halted his removal, calling it “lacking in merit.”

After that ruling, Ude-Okoye again declared himself the rightful national secretary of the PDP.

A few weeks ago, some PDP members led by Nyesom Wike insisted that Senator Samuel Anyanwu is still the legitimate National Secretary of the party.
