Tinubu was received on Saturday at Hewanorra International Airport with military honours by Saint Lucia’s Governor-General, Cyril Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
Although the official part of his visit starts on Sunday, the Nigerian president will first pay courtesy visits to both leaders.
On Monday, Tinubu is expected to deliver a special address to a joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly.
The event, set to take place at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom in Gros Islet, will be attended by regional leaders, members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), top officials, diplomats, the Nigerian community, and OECS Director-General Didacus Jules.
Following his engagements in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will head to Brazil to participate in the 2025 BRICS Summit, scheduled for July 6 and 7 in Rio de Janeiro.
Tinubu is attending the summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, under the designation of a “partner country,” a level that sits between guest and full member.
African countries currently part of BRICS include South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
This year’s summit, the 17th in its series, will explore how countries in the Global South can work more closely together to promote fairer, more inclusive development across social, economic, and environmental sectors.
