President Bola Tinubu met on Thursday with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and several lawmakers from the state.

The closed-door meeting, held in Abuja, aimed to ease the political crisis that had gripped Rivers State for months, leading to a state of emergency being declared on March 18.
This was the first time President Tinubu and Governor Fubara were seen together since the President announced the emergency rule, during which he suspended the governor, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire state assembly for an initial period of six months.
Tinubu had defended his decision by citing the worsening breakdown in relations between the governor and the assembly, and rising insecurity in the state.
The president claimed he acted under Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, saying he could no longer sit by and watch the situation escalate.
Despite the serious nature of the crisis, the atmosphere at Thursday’s meeting appeared more relaxed and hopeful.
Photos showed Tinubu smiling alongside both Fubara and Wike, suggesting some progress in their reconciliation.
Another image showed Wike and Fubara walking together, with Amaewhule and other lawmakers following closely.
The previously feuding parties could also be seen shaking hands, smiling, and engaging warmly, signalling a shift from the bitter public disputes of the past several months.
No official statements were released after the meeting, but the mood and body language of those involved pointed toward a possible resolution and an end to the emergency rule in the oil-rich state.
