Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has expressed optimism that peace is finally returning to the state.

This comes after after a reconciliation meeting with President Bola Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and suspended members of the state assembly.
Speaking on Thursday night after the closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Fubara said the dialogue marked a turning point in the political crisis that has troubled the state since early 2025.
“For me, it is very important that this day has come to be. What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace, and by the special grace of God, and with the help of Mr President and with the agreement of the leaders of the state, peace has returned in Rivers State,” he said
Fubara, who has been under suspension for three months, vowed to “do everything within our power to ensure that we sustain it this time around”.
The crisis in Rivers began when President Tinubu, acting under Section 305 of the Constitution, suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the state assembly in March.
The fallout between Wike, the former governor, and Fubara had escalated, with lawmakers loyal to Wike, led by Martins Amaewhule, making moves to impeach Fubara.
After Thursday’s meeting, photos and video clips from the event showed all parties smiling, shaking hands, and appearing relaxed, putting an end to the hostility of the past few months.
