Bariga Council Chairman Renames ‘Charly Boy’ Bus Stop After Olamide ‘Baddo’ [Video]

The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos has renamed the well-known Charly Boy bus stop in honour of popular rapper and singer, Olamide Adedeji, widely known as Baddo.

The announcement came from the outgoing council chairman, Kolade Alabi David, who said the change was part of a broader initiative to recognise local figures who have made Bariga and Nigeria proud through their talents and achievements.

“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of our people who have put the name of our local council out on the global map through their respective God-given talents and craft, as well as eminent personalities in our Nation and our beloved state and Local Council who have contributed immensely to the development of our Nation and our State,” he said

“Today, we will be officially renaming streets in honour of the legacies.”

Ajidagan Street will now be called Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street. That means Charly Boy bus stop will now be called Baddo Bus-Stop, no more Charly Boy,” he added.

The bus stop was previously named after outspoken entertainer Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy.

Olamide, a native of Bariga, has made a name for himself as one of Nigeria’s most successful and influential musicians, with a career that has lasted over a decade.

The renaming isn’t limited to Olamide. The council has also changed several other street names in honour of prominent figures:

  • Ilaje RoadKing Sunny Ade Road
  • Bariga RoadBola Ahmed Tinubu Way
  • Community Road, AkokaBabajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
  • Ajidagan StreetOlamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
  • Ifeanyi StreetAbolore Akande (9ice) Street
  • Ayodele Street, Ladi-LakTony Tetuila Street

According to Alabi, the renaming is a way of preserving the legacies of these icons and inspiring younger generations in the community.
