Court Grants Scott Iguma N10 Million Bail In Defamation Case With PWAN

Justice Friday Oghazi of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted bail to activist Scott Iguma in the sum of N10 million.

KanyiDaily recalls that Scott Iguma was arrested and charged for allegedly posting a false video online after he publicly accused a real estate company, PWAN, of defrauding customers.

Before his arrest, the activist had also submitted over 130 petitions to the EFCC on behalf of alleged victims, claiming that PWAN issued receipts without actually providing land.

Following his arrest by the police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, Lagos, Iguma was arraigned on July 17 on a four-count charge bordering on alleged publication of false information and defamation.

The court initially ordered his remand in custody last week, sparking widespread reactions on social media.

Celebrities and influencers such as Tunde Ednut, VeryDarkMan, Stanley Ontop, and singer Kokopee took to social media to express their outrage, accusing the police and PWAN of trying to silence the activist.

During the bail hearing, Iguma’s lawyer, Stanley Alieke, urged the court to release his client under lenient conditions.

The prosecuting counsel, A.O. Nwabuisi, did not oppose the bail request but asked the court to warn the defendant against making further public statements about the case.

In his ruling, Justice Oghazi agreed to grant bail, setting the sum at N10 million with one surety in the same amount.

The surety must either provide proof of property ownership within Lagos or be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12 with valid tax documents.

The judge also issued a warning to both the complainant and defendant to stop making public statements or social media posts related to the case, reminding both parties that the matter is now before the court.

Justice Oghazi adjourned the case to October 10, 2025, for the trial to begin.

Reacting on Monday, Kokopee announced in a video on his Instagram page that Iguma had been granted bail, stressing that his legal team was working to perfect the conditions for his release.

“After the hearing, the judge has granted Scott Iguma bail. His legal team is currently working round the clock to ensure all bail conditions are met.

“One thing I must tell Nigerians is that we cannot be silent when it looks like oppression is around the corner. Injustice for one is injustice to all,” Kokopee said.

He further said, “PWAN, be warned. If you say you are innocent, come forward with proof.”
