FG Declares Tuesday As Public Holiday To Honour Buhari

Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the holiday was announced as part of the ongoing seven-day national mourning period declared by President Bola Tinubu.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the announcement on behalf of the government, said the decision was approved by President Tinubu as a tribute to Buhari’s service and legacy.

According to the statement, the holiday is meant to give Nigerians a moment to reflect on Buhari’s life, his role in strengthening democracy, and his contributions to national development.

President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation.

“This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the Minister said.

He also encouraged Nigerians to use the day to promote peace and national unity, ideals the late president held dear.

As earlier announced, the national flags are to fly at half-mast for the seven-daymourning period from Sunday, 13th July, 2025.

“The Federal Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late president, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement added.
