Liverpool Star, Diogo Jota Dies In Spain Car Accident Two Weeks After His Wedding

Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota has died in a car accident in Spain at the age of 28.

The shocking news comes less than two weeks after his wedding with his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, in Porto. The couple had three children together.

It was gathered Jota was traveling with his younger brother, André, a 26-year-old footballer, when their car crashed on the A-52 highway near Cernadilla in Zamora, a region in Castilla y León, Spain.

Emergency services confirmed receiving multiple calls about the incident, revealing that the car was already in flames when responders arrived at the scene.

The statement read, “The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire.”

Born in Portugal, Jota began his football journey with Paços de Ferreira. He signed for Atletico Madrid in 2016 but never made a competitive appearance for them, spending time on loan at Porto and later Wolves before settling into English football.

He made his senior debut for Portugal in 2019 and went on to represent his country at the European Championships in both 2020 and 2024.
