Soldier Killed By Gunmen As Security Agents Rescue Chinese National In Kogi

Gunmen believed to be kidnappers attacked a construction site in Ogaminana, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State on Monday, killing a soldier who was stationed there to protect the workers.

According to a local source who spoke with LEADERSHIP, the gunmen stormed the site in large numbers, seized a Chinese national, and quickly fled the scene with their captive.

The kidnappers later abandoned their getaway vehicle near the Radio Kogi Booster Station at Otite, just a short distance from where the abduction took place.

The source said a combined team of security forces, including the military, police, local hunters, and vigilante groups, pursued the kidnappers, eventually forcing them to release the kidnapped Chinese citizen.

“The joint task force are still combining the bushes around the area for possible arrest of the criminals.

“The soldiers on duty tried their best to repel the criminals, but they were overpowered, by their numbers. There is need for the authorities to draft more men to the area and other flash points in the area,” a source said

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ovye Aya, said he was still waiting for a full report from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area.

KanyiDaily also reported how a police inspector, Donfa Chirtip was killed, and his wife, Victoria, abducted by gunmen at Kurmin Kare in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
