US Court Convicts Diddy On Prostitution Charge, Clears Him Of Sex Trafficking

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been cleared of racketeering and sex trafficking charges but was found guilty of a lesser offence related to prostitution following a seven-week trial in New York.

After three days of deliberation lasting 13 hours, the jury convicted Diddy of two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution. Each count could carry up to 10 years in prison.

The 55-year-old appeared relieved as the verdict was read, thanking the jury and shaking hands with his lawyers.

Judge Arun Subramanian praised the jurors for their commitment, saying, “You listened, you worked together, you were here every day, rain or shine. You did so with no reward, other than the reward that comes from answering the call of public service.”

The case had drawn massive attention, with prosecutors painting Combs as the leader of a criminal network that operated for decades.

He was accused of directing his staff and bodyguards to commit a range of crimes, including drug trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, bribery, and arson.

To convict Diddy of racketeering, the jury would have needed to determine that a criminal enterprise existed and that it committed at least two criminal acts.

While the jury reached a partial verdict on Tuesday, they were initially deadlocked on the racketeering charge.

Judge Subramanian urged them to continue deliberations, but they ultimately acquitted him on that count.

The trial included graphic and testimony from two women—singer Cassie Ventura and another identified only as Jane—who both had long-term relationships with Combs.

They accused him of abuse, threats, and being forced into sex acts involving other men at his direction.

Combs’s defense admitted there had been violence in the relationships, with one incident where he was seen beating and dragging Ventura, captured on surveillance footage and widely circulated.

However, they argued that the sexual encounters were consensual and did not qualify as sex trafficking.

“In his mind he was untouchable. The defendant never thought that the women he abused would have the courage to speak out loud what he had done to them,” said prosecutor Maurene Comey.

Diddy was convicted of a prostitution-related offense but acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put one of hip-hop’s most celebrated figures behind bars for life.

While the verdict spares him from the most serious consequences, the trial and its disturbing revelations have left a lasting mark on his legacy.
