Wisdom was arrested along with 24-year-old Sunday Michael, a security guard at 9th Mile from Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, who is accused of helping him carry out the crime.
Police said the two suspects were arrested on August 11 and 12, 2025, by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad after investigators traced ransom demands linked to the child’s disappearance.
A statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said the boy was first reported missing on July 26, 2025.
Investigations later revealed that Wisdom, the child’s cousin, used Michael to contact the victim’s father and demand ₦1 million in ransom in order to hide his involvement.
When the ransom was not paid, police said Wisdom killed the boy and buried him in a bush close to their home in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. The prime suspect thereafter led operatives to the scene, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor, who certified the child dead.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commiserated with the bereaved family and assured them that the suspects will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations.
“He reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to detecting heinous crimes and ensuring justice,” the PPRO added in the statement.
