Lagos Government Begins Demolition Of Illegal Structures At Trade Fair Complex

The Lagos State Government on Thursday began demolition of illegal and unsafe buildings at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo.

The demolition was carried out in collaboration with several agencies, including the Ministry of Physical Planning, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Urban Renewal Agency, and the Physical Planning Permit Authority.

Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the development in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He explained that the action was aimed at restoring order and ensuring strict compliance with planning regulations.

According to him, the focus of the exercise was targeted at “illegal developments, structures without statutory approvals, defective structures, and buildings erected on road setbacks and drainages.”

“The Lagos State Government has begun removal of illegal developments, structures without statutory approvals and defective structures, and structures built on road setback and drainages in the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo Local Government area,” Gawat said.

Officials from the Office of Infrastructure, members of the State House of Assembly, and security operatives were also on ground to monitor and provide support during the exercise.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Lagos Government previously demolished buildings in parts of the Eti-Osa Local Government Area as part of efforts to tackle persistent flooding in the area.
